ETSU Football announces Bowman Jewelers Player of the Game awards

JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (Oct. 30, 2016) – Following each game during the 2016 college football season, ETSU head coach Carl Torbush announces the Bowman Jewelers Offensive, Defensive and Special Teams Players of the Game, along with the “Effort Play of the Game” and “Show Team Players of the Week” awards.       

Below are the recipients from Saturday’s game versus No. 5 The Citadel.   

OFFENSIVE PLAYERS OF THE GAME

Drake Powell – WR – Clinton, Tenn.

  • Graded out at 89 percent
  • Three receptions for 70 yards, including a 52-yard catch
  • The 52-yard reception marked his longest collegiate catch and it set up ETSU’s second quarter touchdown … It also marked the Bucs’ longest pass play of the season
  • Career-high 70 receiving yards
  • Also broke two tackles 

Haddon Hill – FB – Knoxville, Tenn.

  • Graded out at 88 percent
  • Two receptions for 24 yards and one touchdown
  • Scored his first collegiate touchdown on a three-yard catch on a 4th-and-1 play
  • Career-high 21-yard reception in the third quarter … The drive led to a field goal for the Bucs
  • Also had one tackle on special teams 

DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE GAME

Jeremy Lewis – DB – Lawrenceville, Ga.

  • Graded out at 92 percent
  • Registered six tackles
  • Had one pass break up
  • Received this honor for the second straight week 

SPECIAL TEAMS PLAYER OF THE GAME

Adam Mullins – LS – Elizabethton, Tenn.

  • 10-for-10 on snaps
  • Had a tackle on punt coverage
  • Third time receiving the award this season 

EFFORT PLAY OF THE GAME

Sophomore long snapper Adam Mullins (Elizabethton, Tenn.) earned the Effort Play of the Game award … Mullins tracked down wide receiver DeAndre Schoultz on his 55-yard punt return to save a touchdown in the fourth quarter. 

SHOW TEAM PLAYERS OF THE WEEK

This week Coach Torbush and the Buccaneer coaching staff recognized Ja’Vonte Williams (Cincinnati, Ohio) and Eddie Gajardo (Greeneville, Tenn.) as the “Show Team Players of the Week.” 

Williams is a 5-foot-11, 171-pound freshman defensive back and Gajardo is a 6-foot-6, 291-pound freshman offensive lineman.
