ETSU Football announces Bowman Jewelers Player of the Game awards

JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (Nov. 13, 2016) – Following each game during the 2016 college football season, ETSU head coach Carl Torbush announces the Bowman Jewelers Offensive, Defensive and Special Teams Players of the Game, along with the “Effort Play of the Game” “Impact Play of the Game” and “Show Team Players of the Week” awards.       

Below are the recipients from Saturday’s Homecoming win over Cumberland.   

OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE GAME

Jajuan Stinson – RB – Knoxville, Tenn.

  • Totaled 143 all-purpose yards – 114 rushing and 29 receiving
  • Scored all three touchdowns for the Bucs (two rushing/one receiving)
  • Became the first Buccaneer since Gaven Varner rushed for three touchdowns against VMI back on Sept. 21, 2003
  • Recorded his fifth career 100-yard rushing game
  • Averaged 6.7 yards per rush
  • Graded out at 94 percent
  • Second time receiving the honor this season 

DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE GAME

Chris Bouyer – DL – Rock Hill, S.C.

  • Graded out at 89 percent
  • Totaled six hits
  • Posted 1.5 tackles for loss (negative-9 yards) 

HONORABLE MENTION

Tavian Lott – DB – D’Lo, Miss.

  • Five tackles (one tackle for loss)
  • Three pass break ups

SPECIAL TEAMS PLAYER OF THE GAME

JJ Jerman – K – Seymour, Tenn.

  • Made two extra points and one field goal
  • His 26-yard field goal came at the end of the first half, which extended ETSU’s lead to 23-16 

EFFORT PLAY OF THE GAME

Senior defensive back Tavian Lott (D’Lo Miss.) earned the Effort Play of the Game honors … With ETSU leading 23-16 early in the fourth quarter, Cumberland faced 3rd-and-goal from the 11 … Quarterback Justin Snyder looked for Denarius Toliver in the end zone, but Lott came off his man and broke up the pass to save the potential game-tying touchdown. 

IMPACT PLAY OF THE GAME

The Buccaneer defense earned “Impact Play of the Game” honors … Cumberland faced 1st-and-goal from the 4-yard line late in the third quarter and ETSU’s defense held the Phoenix out of the end zone … Cumberland had a pair of one-yard rushes on first and second down, while Paul Hunter (Denton, Texas) broke up a touchdown pass on third down and Ryan Powers (Jupiter, Fla.) followed suit the fourth down play to keep the Bucs’ 23-16 lead intact. 

SHOW TEAM PLAYERS OF THE WEEK

This week Coach Torbush and the Buccaneer coaching staff recognized Blake Bockrath (Loveland, Ohio) and Adam Mitchell (Bristol, Tenn.) as the “Show Team Players of the Week.”

Bockrath is a 6-foot-6, 222-pound freshman linebacker and Mitchell is a 6-foot-3, 209-pound red-shirt freshman tight end.
