JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (Nov. 18, 2016) – After knocking off Kennesaw State 77 days ago in its season opener, the ETSU football team wraps up its 2016 season on Saturday as the Bucs host #18 Samford at Kermit Tipton Stadium. Kickoff is set for 3:30 p.m.
THINGS TO KNOW FOR SATURDAY’S GAME
No. 1 – Game time is set for 3:30 pm. on Saturday, with the traditional Buc Walk set for 1:45 p.m. During the year, the Buc Walk will take place one hour and 45 minutes prior to game time.
No. 2 – Parking areas around Kermit Tipton will open at 7:30 a.m. for tailgating, and gates to the stadium will open at approximately 1:30 p.m. During the year, gates to the stadium will open two hours prior to kick. Please make sure to have your designated parking pass visibly displayed to access lots. Paid parking is also available in Lots C and I, as well as in the Terrace lots in front of Science Hill High School.
No. 3 – Saturday’s game is Heroes’ Appreciation Day …. All veterans, active-service military, police, firemen, doctors, and EMT’s with their professional ID or in uniform receive one free ticket to the game.

ETSU (4-6, 1-6) defeated Cumberland 23-16 last Saturday on Homecoming Saturday.
Last Saturday, both teams combined for 39 points and 484 yards of total offense in the first half; however, they were held scoreless on 259 yards of offense in the second half … The teams combined to score touchdowns on the first five possessions of the game … Overall, the Buccaneer defense limited Cumberland to 133 total yards of offense in the second half (11 rushing yards/122 passing yards), while also holding the Phoenix to 1-of-7 on third and 1-of-3 on fourth down in the second half.
Jajuan Stinson (Knoxville, Tenn.) has posted over 100 all-purpose yards seven times in his young Buccaneer career … When the sophomore running back goes over 100 all purpose yards, the Bucs are 6-1 in those contests … Stinson totaled 143 all purpose yards in last week’s win over Cumberland.
Stinson earned General Shale Southern Conference Student-Athlete of the Week honors on Wednesday … Stinson – who scored all three touchdowns in last Saturday’s win – became the first Buccaneer to accomplish the feat since 2003 when Gaven Varner rushed for three scores against VMI.
Sophomore Dylan Weigel (Pickerington, Ohio) and graduate senior Ryan Powers (Jupiter, Fla.) have recorded double-digit tackles in their last three games … Weigel has 32 tackles in his last three contests, while Powers has totaled 33.
Prior to Saturday’s game the ETSU Department of Intercollegiate Athletics will recognize four Buccaneers who are donning the Blue and Gold one last time … Defensive backs Tavian Lott (D’Lo, Miss.) and Ryan Powers, wide receiver Chad Pritchard (Johnson City, Tenn.) and defensive lineman Royce Turnbull (Charlotte, N.C.) are playing their final game as Buccaneers on Saturday … Lott has started all 21 games as Buccaneer, while totaling 64 tackles (2.5 TFL), three interceptions, six pass break ups and one forced fumble … Powers – who played his first three seasons at Stetson – transferred to ETSU as a graduate student … Powers has started nine games for the Blue and Gold, while registering 64 tackles, 2.5 tackles for loss, seven pass break ups and one forced fumble … The Jupiter, Fla. native has recorded double-digit tackles four times this season – including a season-high 12 at Mercer … Like Lott, Pritchard has played the last two seasons for ETSU … The Elizabethton, Tenn. native has played in all 21 games, making three starts and totaling 23 receptions for 342 yards … Pritchard had a career-high three receptions in ETSU’s win over Western Carolina at Bristol Motor Speedway earlier this season and posted a career-best 57 receiving yards at #21 Montana State last October … Turnbull has played in 13 games over the last two seasons, while his 2016 campaign was cut short due to injury … In his 13 career games, Turnbull has posted eight tackles, including at least one tackle in seven games.
ETSU has won six of its last eight season finales, including its last two with wins over Kentucky Wesleyan (42-27; 2105) and The Citadel (16-13; 2003).
A Buccaneer win over Samford would finish ETSU’s season with a record of 5-6 … A win would mark ETSU’s 340th win all-time in program history … A win would mark the Bucs’ first-ever win over Samford, while be their first victory over a ranked opponent since knocking off #1 Georgia Southern, 19-16, in 2001.
Samford – who is ranked No. 18 coming into the weekend – defeated Mercer, 24-19, last Saturday in Birmingham … The Bulldogs are 7-3 this season (5-2 in SoCon).
Five of Samford’s seven wins have come at home, while the Bulldogs are 2-3 on the road this season (wins at Central Arkansas and at Furman; losses at then-No. 3 Chattanooga, at Mississippi State and No. 5 The Citadel).
Seventy-nine percent of Samford’s offense has come through the air as the Bulldogs have recorded 3,699 yards passing and 994 yards rushing this season…. Samford is averaging 38.3 points and 469.3 yards per game (369.9 passing/99.4 rushing).
Samford has scored over 30 points in seven of its 10 games this season ... The Bulldogs have scored 50 touchdowns this season, while quarterback Devlin Hodges has 33 passing touchdowns and wide receiver Karel Hamilton has 14 touchdowns … Hodges is 328-for-456 with 3,594 yards passing, while Hamilton has 96 receptions and 1,204 receiving yards in nine games … Hodges is averaging 33 completions and three passing touchdowns a game.
Samford has recorded over 500 yards of total offense five times this season, including a season-high 627 yards (468 passing/159 rushing) at Mississippi State.
Offensively, Samford has turned the ball over 14 times (eight interceptions/six fumbles), while the Bulldog defense have forced 17 turnovers (nine interceptions/eight fumbles).
Samford’s defense has scored four touchdowns this season – two fumble and two interception returns... Samford has scored 220 of its 383 points in the first half this season ... Defensively, the Bulldogs are allowing 428.8 yards (215.7 rushing/213.1 passing) and 27.4 points per game … Samford has recorded 25 sacks.
Eight players have caught touchdown passes for the Bulldogs, while three players have over 50 receptions and six have over 20 receptions.
Samford leads the all-time series, 3-0 … The last time the two programs met was on Sept. 14, 1991 when the Bulldogs defeated ETSU, 31-6, inside Memorial Center … Samford also picked up wins in 1989 (38-23; Birmingham) and 1990 (17-13; Johnson City).
