JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (Sept. 3, 2017) – Following each game during the 2017 college football season, ETSU head coach Carl Torbush will announce the Bowman Jewelers Offensive, Defensive and Special Teams Players of the Game, along with the “Effort Play of the Game” and “Show Team Players of the Week” awards.
Below are the recipients from Saturday’s 31-10 win over Limestone in the inaugural game at William B. Greene, Jr. Stadium.
OFFENSIVE PLAYERS OF THE GAME
AUSTIN HERINK – QB – RJR. –CLEVELAND, TENN.
-- Completed 16 of his 20 passes (80%) for 239 yards and tied a career high with three passing touchdowns
-- Set a new single-game program record by completing his first 15 passes to start the game
-- Was 13-for-13 with 180 yards and two touchdowns in the first half
-- Completed at least one pass to eight different Buccaneer receivers
-- Threw a 43-yard touchdown pass to Andrew Heyward (Powder Springs, Ga.) for the first-ever score inside William B. Greene, Jr. Stadium … Also, had a 45-yard touchdown pass to Anthony Spagnoletti (Bealeton, Va.) and a 25-yard score to Vincent Lowe (Chesapeake, Va.).
DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE GAME
NASIR PLAYER – DE – RSO. – COLUMBIA, S.C.
-- Finished with a career-high 10 tackles in the win over Limestone
-- Had four pressures and 1.5 tackles for loss
-- Totaled five solo tackles
SPECIAL TEAMS PLAYER OF THE GAME
BLAKE BOCKRATH – LB – RFR. – LOVELAND, OHIO
-- Recorded five total tackles in his collegiate debut
-- Two tackles came on kickoff coverage, including ETSU’s first-ever special teams tackle inside William B. Greene, Jr. Stadium
-- Gave great effort the entire game and was solid on special teams
TYREE ROBINSON – DB – FR. – GAINESVILLE, GA.
-- Made his collegiate debut on Saturday, posting his first collegiate tackle on special teams
-- Played extremely hard, and covered kickoff coverage with a vengeance
EFFORT PLAY OF THE GAME
Redshirt junior linebacker River Boruff (Sparta, Tenn.) earned this week’s Effort Play of the Game … On Limestone’s first possession of the second quarter, the Saints faced 2nd-and-14 at their own 25-yard line … On the play, Boruff blitzed the Saints’ quarterback and the ball was pitched to running back Daitwan Commodore … Commordore picked up a gain of 13 yards, but Boruff never let up on the play and tracked down the Limestone running back for the tackle … Boruff then stuffed quarterback Ivan Corbin, Jr. for no gain on the next play to force the Saints to punt, which led to the Bucs’ second scoring drive of the night.
SHOW TEAM PLAYERS OF THE WEEK
This week Coach Torbush and the Buccaneer coaching staff recognized Kashif Warren (Knoxville, Tenn.) and Chris Ross (Enterprise, Ala.) as the “Show Team Players of the Week.”
Warren is a 5-foot-10, 165-pound freshman wide receiver and Ross is a 6-foot-1, 200-pound freshman linebacker.
