ETSU football announces Bowman Jewelers Player of the Game awards

JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (Oct. 1, 2017) – Following each game during the 2017 college football season, ETSU head coach Carl Torbush will announce the Bowman Jewelers Offensive, Defensive and Special Teams Players of the Game, along with the “Effort Play of the Game” and “Show Team Players of the Week” awards.      

Below are the recipients from Saturday’s game at Furman.

CO-OFFENSIVE PLAYERS OF THE GAME

AUSTIN HERINK – QB – R-JR. – CLEVELAND, TENN.

-- Completed 24 of his 37 passes for a career-high 434 yards

-- Tied a career best with three touchdown passes

-- Became the first Buccaneer quarterback to throw for over 300 yards since Carl Meadows did so on Sept. 4, 2003 against Concord. 

-- The 78-yard touchdown pass to Hunter Wike (Canton, N.C.) was the ninth-longest scoring pass play in program history

-- Second-most passing yards by a Southern Conference quarterback this season

VINCENT LOWE – WR – SR. – CHESAPEAKE, VA.

-- Set career highs in receptions (5), receiving yards (105) and receiving touchdowns (2)

-- Became the first Buccaneer to have two receiving touchdowns in a game since Falon Lee (Macclenny, Fla.) did so against Kentucky Wesleyan in 2015

-- The 53-yard touchdown reception in the first quarter marked his longest collegiate catch

HUNTER WIKE – WR – SR. – CANTON, N.C.

-- Finished with a career-high 101 receiving yards and one touchdown

-- His 78-yard touchdown reception in the fourth quarter marked the ninth-longest scoring pass play in program history

-- The 78-yard reception is the third-longest pass play in the SoCon this season  

DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE GAME

TREMOND FERRELL – DL – JR. – WASHINGTON, GA.

-- Finished with a career-high nine tackles

-- Totaled two quarterback pressures  

CO-SPECIAL TEAMS PLAYER OF THE GAME

MARION WATSON – P – JR. – WAXHAW, N.C. 

-- Averaged 44.2 yards per punt (Totaled 221 yards on five punts)

-- Placed two punts inside the 20, which included one inside the 10-yard line

-- Did not allow a punt return

LANDON KUNAK – K/P – R-SO. – SPARTANBURG, S.C. 

-- All five kickoffs went for touchbacks

-- Averaged 65 yards per kickoff

EFFORT PLAY OF THE GAME

Senior offensive lineman Alex Rios (Tucson, Ariz.) received this week’s Effort Play of the Game honor … Rios provided a key block on the screen pass that set up Hunter Wike’s 78-yard touchdown in the fourth quarter.

SHOW TEAM PLAYERS OF THE WEEK

This week Coach Torbush and the Buccaneer coaching staff recognized Jack Jones (Bristol, Tenn.) and Stephen Antonelli (Clinton, Tenn.) as the “Show Team Players of the Week.” 

Jones is a 6-foot-1, 216-pound redshirt junior linebacker and Antonelli is a 6-foot-3, 226-pound redshirt junior tight end.
