JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (Oct. 8, 2017) – Following each game during the 2017 college football season, ETSU head coach Carl Torbush will announce the Bowman Jewelers Offensive, Defensive and Special Teams Players of the Game, along with the “Effort Play of the Game” and “Show Team Players of the Week” awards.
Below are the recipients from Saturday’s 16-3 win over Robert Morris.
OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE GAME
KOBE KELLEY – WR – JR. – KNOXVILLE, TENN.
-- Led the Bucs with five receptions for 93 yards (three explosive catches)
-- Set a career high in receiving yards and tied a career best in catches
-- All five receptions went for first downs, including two going over 20 yards
CO-DEFENSIVE PLAYERS OF THE GAME
NASIR PLAYER – DL – R-SO. – COLUMBIA, S.C.
-- Totaled four tackles and three sacks
-- Three sacks are tied for the fourth-most in program history (singe game)
-- Three sacks are the most by a SoCon player this season and tied for the fourth-most by an FCS player this year
JD GRIFFIN – LB – SO. – KODAK, TENN.
-- Finished with four tackles
-- Registered a sack and fumble recovery (fumble recovery off the muffed punt led to ETSU’s second-quarter touchdown)
-- Two quarterback hurries
SPECIAL TEAMS PLAYER OF THE GAME
ADAM MULLINS – LS – R-JR. – ELIZABETHTON, TENN.
-- Was 11-of-12 on snaps (5-of-5 on punts)
-- One tackle and forced a fair catch
EFFORT PLAY OF THE GAME
Sophomore linebacker JD Griffin (Kodak, Tenn.) was credited with two Effort Plays of the Game … Both came on the same series to start the fourth quarter as he hustled down running back Harrison Dreher on a 20-yard run near the Robert Morris sideline, while four plays later he tackled Cole Blake for a gain of one on a 2nd-and-20 screen pass.
SHOW TEAM PLAYERS OF THE WEEK
This week Coach Torbush and the Buccaneer coaching staff recognized Tre’mond Shorts (Hampton, Ga.) and Chris Stine (Bristol, Va.) as the “Show Team Players of the Week.”
Shorts is a 6-foot-4, 338-pound freshman offensive lineman and Stine is a 6-foot-1, 252-pound redshirt sophomore defensive lineman.
