ETSU football announces Bowman Jewelers Player of the Game awards

JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (Oct. 16, 2017) – Following each game during the 2017 college football season, ETSU head coach Carl Torbush will announce the Bowman Jewelers Offensive, Defensive and Special Teams Players of the Game, along with the “Effort Play of the Game” and “Show Team Players of the Week” awards.      

Below are the recipients from Saturday’s game at No. 21 Western Carolina.

CO-OFFENSIVE PLAYERS OF THE GAME

FALON LEE – RB – SR. – MACCLENNY, FLA.

-- Finished with a career-high 85 rushing yards on 16 carries

-- Averaged 5.3 yards per carry

-- Longest run of the game went for 18 yards

MATT PYKE – OL – R-JR. – CLINTON, TENN.

-- Played 69 of the 73 snaps

-- Graded out at 81% and at 89% via strike zone snaps

-- Gave the Bucs great overall effort and solid play the entire game 

DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE GAME

BLAKE BOCKRATH – LB – R-FR. – LOVELAND, OHIO

-- Led the Bucs with six tackles (five solo)

-- Recorded a sack for the second straight game

-- One quarterback hurry  

SPECIAL TEAMS PLAYER OF THE GAME

MARION WATSON – P – JR. – WAXHAW, N.C. 

-- Eight punts for 323 yards

-- Averaged 40.4 yards per punt

-- Landed one punt inside the 15-yard line   

EFFORT PLAY OF THE GAME

Redshirt sophomore defensive end Nasir Player (Columbia, S.C.) received this week’s Effort Play of the Game honor … Player chased down Western Carolina quarterback Tyrie Adams on a 40-yard run to make a touchdown-saving tackle in the third quarter.

SHOW TEAM PLAYERS OF THE WEEK

This week Coach Torbush and the Buccaneer coaching staff recognized Adam Mitchell (Bristol, Tenn.) and Austin Howard (Clinton, Tenn.) as the “Show Team Players of the Week.” 

Mitchell is a 6-foot-3, 210-pound redshirt sophomore tight end and Howard is a 6-foot-2, 224-pound redshirt freshman linebacker.
