JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (March 24, 2018) – The ETSU football team concluded the second week of spring practice by holding its first scrimmage on Saturday afternoon inside William B. Greene, Jr. Stadium.



Tight end Justin Gilliam (Jonesville, Ga.) and running back Quay Holmes (Powder Springs, Ga.) accounted for the two touchdowns for the Buccaneers.

Gilliam – who finished with two catches for 32 yards – capped off a 4-play, 60-yard drive as he hauled in a 28-yard score from Trey Mitchell.

Holmes led the running backs with seven rushes for 56 yards and added a 15-yard scoring run ... Hunter Thomas (Pulaski, Va.) totaled five carries for 34 yards. 

Thirteen Bucs recorded at least one reception as the receiving group totaled 25 receptions for 266 yards … Kobe Kelley (Knoxville, Tenn.) paced the Blue and Gold with five catches for 47 yards, while Drae Butts (Gray, Ga.) hauled in four passes for 53 yards ... Andrew Heyward (Powder Springs, Ga.) had a 51-yard reception. 

Quarterbacks Austin Herink (Cleveland, Tenn.) and Logan Marchi (Bristol, Conn.) combined for 19 completions and 157 yards passing ... Tyrique Sandusky (Memphis, Tenn.) had two completions for 57 yards. 


Defensive lineman Chei Hill (Homestead, Fla.) led the Buccaneer defense with five tackles and two fumble recoveries.

Defensive lineman Tremond Ferrell (Washington, Ga.) tallied two sacks, while linebackers Austin Gatewood (Ooltewah, Tenn.),Chris Ross (Enterprise, Ala.) and Jason Maduafokwa (Seymour, Tenn.) all recorded one sack.

A group of five Buccaneers totaled four tackles … The group included linebacker Colton Lakes (Loveland, Ohio), and defensive backs Titus Tucker (Lenoir, N.C.),  Thomas Henderson (Dublin, Ohio) and Keanu James (Dacula, Ga.).

Defensive back Karon Delince (Phenix City, Ala.) – who is fresh off winning Southern Conference Indoor Freshman Male Athlete of the Year honors – totaled three tackles on Saturday.


Spring practice culminates with the Ballad Health Blue-Gold Spring Game on Thursday, April 5 at William B. Greene, Jr. Stadium. The Spring Game is free and open to the public.

Practices will be held at William B. Greene Jr. Stadium. Practices during the week will run from 3:45-6 p.m., while Saturday practices/scrimmages will begin at 1 p.m.
