JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (April 13, 2019) – With three weeks of practice in the books, the ETSU Football team capped off the spring season by holding the Ballad Health Blue-Gold Spring Game on Saturday afternoon at William B. Greene, Jr. Stadium.
The Bucs were divided into the Blue Team (offense) and the White Team (defense).
The Blue Team tallied a total of 395 yards of offense (206 passing/189 rushing), while also finding the end zone three times.
Quarterback Cameron Lewis (McDonough, Ga.) carried the load for the Bucs behind the center, taking all of the snaps on Saturday afternoon … The freshman quarterback completed 23-of-31 passes for 206 yards … Lewis also broke free for a 34-yard touchdown run on the opening drive, finishing with nine carries for a net of 15 yards.
Freshman running back Jalyn Williams (Swainsboro, Ga.) found the end zone once on a 15-yard sprint and led all rushers with 10 carries for 90 yards … James Gowen III (Charlotte, N.C.) and DJ Twitty (Inman, S.C.) combined for 17 carries for 58 yards and one touchdown as Twitty found the back of the end zone to conclude his spring performance … Quay Holmes (Powder Springs, Ga.) carried the ball just four times for 19 yards, including a 13-yard rush on his first carry of the day.
The receiving core was paced by Anthony Spagnoletti (Bealeton, Va.) with 70 yards receiving on three catches, including a 45-yard connection from Lewis … Will Huzzie (Duluth, Ga.) and Desi Lester Jr. (Vienna, Ga.) combined for 11 catches and 107 yards with Huzzie leading the duo with 67 yards.
Linebacker Donovan Manuel (Ellenwood, Ga.) led the defensive unit with 10 total tackles, while Jalen Porter (Gallatin, Tenn.) finished the game with seven.
The defense got to the quarterback four times on the day, led by 1.5 sacks from Kendell Wright (Indianola, Miss.) … Olajuwon Pinkelton (Cincinnati, Ohio) and Colton Lakes (Loveland, Ohio) recorded one sack apiece.
The defensive unit recorded nine tackles for loss, while coming away with three interceptions at the hands of MJ Woods (Seale, Ala.), Titus Tucker (Lenoir, N.C.) and Rodarious Timmons (Gainesville, Ga.).
The Bucs finished 2-for-2 in field goals as Logan Bowers (Knoxville, Tenn.) knocked in a pair of 34-yard chip shots.
Landon Kunak (Spartanburg, S.C.) booted three punts in the game with a net yardage of 143 yards and two punts inside the 20-yard line … Kunak laced a game-high 68-yard punt on his third and final attempt.
