Seven Football Players Earn All-Southern Conference Honors

Johnson City, Tenn. -- Seven East Tennessee State University football players earned 2000 All-Southern Conference honors as voted on by the leagues coaches.

First Team honors were earned by linebacker Rahim El Amin and cornerback Denario Smalls. Both El Amin and Smalls earned preseason All-Southern Conference honors. Quarterback Todd Wells, wide receiver Cecil Moore, offensive guard Victor Hooks, safety Ocasio Cofield and linebacker Cory Bolden all earned Second Team honors. as voted on by the leagues coaches.

Senior Rahim El Amin led the Buccaneer defense, and ranked fourth in the Southern Conference, with 113 tackles this fall. He had nine tackles for loss and 2.5 sacks. El Amin made two interceptions and recovered a fumble for a touchdown in the season opener at Liberty. Senior Denario Smalls was the Bucs most consistent cover corner. He made 41 tackles this season and had four interceptions. as voted on by the leagues coaches.

ETSU senior Todd Wells earned Second Team honors after becoming the Southern Conferences All-Time leader in Total Offense. This fall, Wells set the Southern Conference single season record for total offense (2,957) and the ETSU record for passing yardage in a season (2,624). as voted on by the leagues coaches.

Joining Wells on the second team was his main target -- sophomore Cecil Moore. Moore led the team in receptions (58), receiving yards (883), receiving yards/game (80.3) and receiving touchdowns (7). He ranked fourth in the SoCon in receptions/game and fifth in receiving yards/game. as voted on by the leagues coaches.

Senior Cory Bolden ranked second on the team in tackles (102) and tackles for loss (10). He made 1.5 sacks on the season from his middle linebacker spot. Junior Ocasio Cofield solidified the secondary for the Bucs, making 82 tackles and recovering one fumble as the strong safety. as voted on by the leagues coaches.

ETSU finished the 2000 season at 6-5 with a 55-7 win against Charleston Southern on November 11. It was the Bucs fourth winning season in the past five years.
