Johnson City, Tenn. (Oct. 23, 2002) - The Southern Conference football matchup between East Tennessee State and No. 4 Furman will be played Saturday at 3:30 p.m. from Memorial Center in Johnson City, Tenn.
Early schedules had the game being played at 6 p.m., but it was moved to earlier in the day to be broadcast locally on Comcast-Charter Sports Southeast (CSS). It will be the first of two consecutive games to be broadcast on CSS, as next week's ETSU-Georgia Southern game will also be televised live by the network.
The Buccaneers provided their fans with two memorable television games last year from Memorial Center in 2001. Con Chellis kicked a 41-yard field goal as time expired to give East Tennessee State a thrilling 23-21 victory over The Citadel on Oct. 4, 2001. Two weeks later, the Bucs stunned No. 1 ranked Georgia Southern, 19-16. GSU had a 9-0 lead at the half before ETSU exploded for 19 points in the third quarter and held on for the victory. Cecil Moore had two touchdown receptions for the Bucs in the win.
This week's game should also be an exciting matchup, as the Bucs (4-4, 2-2 Southern Conference) have won their last three home games against Furman (5-2, 3-1 SoCon), but only by a combined seven points.
