Tuesday, August 27, 2002

Johnson City, Tenn. (Aug. 27, 2002) - East Tennessee State's football team had a pair of its players placed on a pair of national award watch lists The Sports Network has announced. Senior wide receiver Cecil Moore (Morristown, Tenn.) and junior cornerback Tony Tiller (Lithonia, Ga.) were placed on the "Payton Watch" and "Buchanan Battle" lists by the organization. The Walter Peyton Award recognizes the top player in I-AA football, while the Buck Buchanan Award honors I-AA's top defensive player. A two-time All-Southern Conference receiver, Moore led the SoCon in 2001 in receptions (57), reception yards (908) and punt returns (13.0) to also earn All-America recognition. Rated as the No. 5 wideout in I-AA, Moore is poised to rewrite the ETSU receiving record book, coming into the 2002 season fifth on the all-time receptions list and fourth on the receiving yardage list. Tiller had an outstanding year last season after moving to defense from a receiver position, quickly establishing him as one of the top corners in I-AA football. Last season he All-Southern Conference honors and honorable mention All-America accolades after leading the SoCon in interceptions with seven, a mark that was also good for fifth in the nation. Ranked as the second best corner coming into the season, Tiller also led the SoCon in passes defended with 20 while finishing third for ETSU in tackles with 55.
