Strength Training

Buccaneer student-athletes spend many hours training in order to be the best when they take the field. A recent renovation to East Tennessee State's strength training facility ensures that they will be ready to face the challenge.

The Buccaneers boast one of the finest weight rooms in the area. The 7,200- square-foot facility, which is one of the largest in the southeast, received a $200,000 renovation two summers ago. The facility was redesigned aesthetically and new equipment, including customized York plates, customized free weight equipment and Hammer-Strength Machines, was added to the facility.

The weight room is located on the second floor of the Memorial Center, just a stone’s throw from the basketball court.

With more than 16 years experience, Lee Morrow implements and plans strength and conditioning programs for the 16-sport ETSU athletic program and works with more than 300 athletes each day.

Now in his 17th season at ETSU, Lee Morrow runs the Buccaneer strength training room, a facility which he recently helped redesign and renovate.

Five ETSU student-athletes have earned National Strength Coaches Association All-American accolades under Morrow's guidance. The award is presented to athletes who achieve excellence in competition as a direct result of work in the weight room.

Morrow has also published numerous articles, which have appeared in strength and conditioning publications. Morrow came to the Buccaneer program from Milligan College where he served as head track and cross country coach and assistant basketball coach. He also served Milligan as director of intramurals.

Morrow and his wife, the former Lisa Hartsell of Greeneville, Tenn., have three children.
