JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (April 1, 2011) â€" ETSU senior guard Mike Smith (Vandalia, Mo.) has only added to his postseason list of accolades this week, being named honorable mention on the Associated Press All-American team and earning all-tournament honors for his efforts in last monthâ€™s CollegeInsider.com Postseason Tournament.
Smith, who was the Atlantic Sun Conference Player of the Year, finished the season as the Bucs top scorer (17.9 ppg) and was second on the team in rebounding (6.8 rpg). He scored 626 points this past season, ranking sixth on the all-time single season list, while also netting 1,783 career points, which ranks seventh all-time at ETSU.
With his selection to the AP All-American team, Smith joins a select group of Buccaneers to have earned All-American honors. That group includes Rusty Woy (1954), Tom Chilton (1961), Keith â€śMisterâ€ť Jennings (1991), Zakee Wadood (2004), Tim Smith (2006), Courtney Pigram (2007).
In the CIT, Smith averaged 24.7 points and 6.3 rebounds in three games, while setting a career high with 32 points in a first-round win over Furman. The Bucs advanced to the semifinals of the CIT with wins over Furman and Ohio.
