Tuesday, February 06, 2001

JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (AP) - Dimeco Childress scored 16 points and grabbed nine rebounds to help East Tennessee State to its first ever victory over College of Charleston Tuesday night, 62-47.

Rebounds were key, with ETSU (14-8, 9-2 Southern Conference) grabbing 43 rebounds to 22 for College of Charleston (19-4, 9-2).

The Buccaneers never trailed, but the game stayed close throughout the first half. ETSU led by only 28-25 at the break.

The second half started out much like the first ended, with ETSU never leading by more than seven.

But a 10-3 run by the Buccaneers late in the game gave them the win. Childress scored all 10 points in the run, putting his team by 14 points, 59-45, with less than two minutes remaining.

Renaldo Johnson had 12 points and 10 rebounds for the Buccaneers, while Cliff Decoster and Adrian Meeks added 10 points each.

Jody Lumpkin led the Cougars with 14 points while Jeff Bolton had 11.
