JOHSON CITY, Tenn. - UNC Asheville had four players score in double figures to lead the Bulldogs in a 70-65 win againt East Tennessee State at ETSU's Memorial Center.
Adam Earnhardt (14), Andre Smith (14), Brett Carey (12) and Allan Lovett (11) all scored in double figures for the visitors. Earnhardt added five rebounds.
Despite being outrebounded 50-35, the Bulldogs prevailed in the non-conference tilt. UNCA (3-1) shot 47.2 percent from the field while the home squad made 33.8 percent of their shots. The free throw line ruined the Bucs as they shot just 58.6 percent (17-of-29).
ETSU (1-4) was led by Ryan Carson who scored a team-high 13 points. Adrian Meeks (12) and Cliff Decoster (12) also scored in double-figures. Decoster added a game-high five assists.
The Bulldogs took command early, jumping out to a 7-0 lead on a three-pointer from Carey at 17:34 of the first half. The Bucs fought back and took their first lead of the game at 5:09 with a jumper by Decoster.
ETSU increased its advantage to a game-high seven points (32-25) at 2:16 of the first half before going to the break ahead 35-33.
UNC Asheville began the second half with an 8-2 run to take a 40-36 lead at 17:38. The game see-sawed before the visitors took the lead for good on another Carey three pointer, at 8:58. The Bulldogs made their free throws down the stretch and assumed control.
The Bucs return to action at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, December 2 when they travel to Morehead, Ky. to face Morehead State.
