Exhibition Win ... ETSU defeated the Charleston AAU Bombers, 97-87, on November 9 in their final exhibition game before the 2000-01 season ... Freshman Ryan Carson bombed the visitors, scoring 17 points on 5-of-6 shooting, including 4-of-4 from behind the arc ... Senior Adrian Meeks scored 14 points while junior point guard Cliff Decoster scored 13 and grabbed a team-high seven rebounds ... Sophomore Ryan Lawson (6) and freshman Sam Oatman (5) led the offense in assists ... Former Buccaneer standout and all-time leading scorer, Greg Dennis, returned to campus and tallied 12 points and six rebounds for the visitors.

On His Way to 1,000 ... Senior D.J. McDuffie needs 265 points to become the 21st player in ETSU history to eclipse the 1,000-point mark ... McDuffie has netted 735 career points (124 as a freshman, 298 as a sophomore and 313 as a junior) ... Trazel Silvers is the most recent entrant to the 1,000 point club, tallying 1,257 career points fom 1991-94.

Non-Conference Opponents ... The Bucs are 24-25 against non-conference opponents since head coach Ed DeChellis took over in 1996-97 ... ETSU was 6-7 against out-of-conference foes last season, including a 73-54 win against Lynchburg College on November 23, 1999 ... Coach DeChellis in home non-conference games: 1996-97: 2-1; 1997-98: 3-1; 1998-99: 5-2; 1999-00: 4-1.

Success in Johnson City ... Since Coach DeChellis arrived in 1996-97, the Bucs are 33-18 (.541) in 51 home contests .... ETSU was 8-5 last season, 10-4 in 1998-99, 9-3 in 1997-98 and 6-6 in 1996-97.

On Television ... The Bucs have two scheduled appearances on television during the 2000-01 season ... Their TV debut is at 8 p.m. on January 2, 2001 at Chattanooga ... ETSU will also be televised when it hosts College of Charleston at 7:30 p.m. on February 6 ... Both games will be carried by Comcast/Charters Sports Southeast (CSS).

Offense Returns ... The Bucs return four of their top five scorers from a team that averaged 69.1 points per game last winter ... ETSUs top scorer Leo Murray (11.0 ppg) graduated but the next four: D.J. McDuffie (10.8), Dimeco Childress (10.0), Adrian Meeks (8.9) and Cliff Decoster (6.8) all return.

Experienced Backcourt ... ETSU returns all three starters from last winters backcourt ... point guard Cliff Decoster (29 games), shooting guard Dimeco Childress (28 games) and versatile D.J. McDuffie (29 games) were stalwarts last season ... the trio also logged loads of playing time: McDuffie (29.2 minutes/game); Childress (25.7 min/game) and Decoster (22.9 min./game).

Dominating the Glass ... The Bucs outrebounded their opponents by 4.0 boards per game last winter ... ETSU led the Southern Conference in rebound margin ... The Bucs 36.9 rebounds/game ranked second in the Southern Conference ... Leo Murray ranked fourth (8.1) while Adrian Meeks (6.9) ranked 11th in the SoCon.

A Talented Freshman Class ... The Buccaneer basketball program welcomes a talented six-player freshman class that could be the best in recent history ... Shooting guard Ryan Carson (Charlotte, N.C.) is a sharpshooter that averaged 22 points, six rebounds and four assists as a senior at Providence Day School ... Power forward Jerald Fields (Gainesville, Fla.) is a strong post player that led Gainesville High School to back-to-back state championships in 1999 and 2000 ... Point guard Sam Oatman (Neenah, Wis.) is a slick passer that holds the Neenah High School record for assists and steals ... Power forward Paul Reed (Sneedville, Tenn.) earned a spot after walking on ... Center Cory Seels (Charleston, S.C.) is a powerful post player that could dominate the SoCon like he dominated Florida High Schools ... Forward Zakee Wadood (Lonoke, Ark.) is an athletic player that earned All-State honors twice at Lonoke High School.

Number Changes ... A couple of ETSU players will don new numbers this season ... senior Renaldo Johnson changes from 44 to 52 while classmate Jon Perry switches from 32 to 11.

Success in High Numbers ... Last winter, East Tennessee State was 6-3 when scoring 70-or-more points; 5-0 when scoring 80-or-more points ... the Bucs were 9-0 when scoring 80-or-more points and 6-2 when scoirng 70-or-more points in 1998-99.

The Head Coach ... Fifth-year head coach Ed DeChellis has compiled a 49-62 (.441) record at ETSU ... He is the sixth winningest coach in Buccaneer basketball history and trails fifth-place Jim Halihan by eight victories ... Madison Brooks won 370 games from 1948-73 ... DeChellis came to Johnson City after 10 years as an assistant at Penn State University.

On the Bench ... Joining head coach Ed DeChellis and second-year assistant Hilliary Scott are two new assistant coaches for the 2000-01 season ... Tom Conrad comes to ETSU after serving the past four years as head coach at Charleston Southern ... Conrad led the Buccaneers to their first-ever NCAA Tournament bid in 1997 ... Scott Wagers also joins the staff, after serving as a high school head coach for the past nine years ... Wagers compiled a 120-24 record at Robinson High School in Tampa, Florida in his five-year tenure.

The Buccaneer Radio Network ... WJCW-AM is the flagship station of the Buccaneer Radio Network. The network will broadcast every mens basketball game and the coaches show. Chip Kessler will serve as the Voice of the Bucs.

Medical Report ... Sophomore Isaac Potter will miss one more week after having surgery.
