Men's Basketball Defeats Charleston AAU, 97-87, in Exhibition

Johnson City, Tenn.-- East Tennessee State freshman Ryan Carson tallied 17 points to lead the Bucs in a 97-87 win against the Charleston AAU Bombers in ETSUs Brooks Gym.

Carson was 5-of-6 from the field, including 4-of-4 from behind the arc. Senior Adrian Meeks (14), sophomore Ryan Lawson (13 points, game-high six assists), senior D.J. McDuffie (11) and freshman Zakee Wadood (11) also scored in double-digits for the home squad.

The Charleston Bombers were led by Ron Keenan who scored a game-high 24 points. Former ETSU star and all-time leading scorer, Greg Dennis returned to campus and poured in 12 points and grabbed six rebounds.

The Bombers opened the game on a hot streak, nailing six three-pointers in the first half. The visitors led 42-39 at the break. Wayne Casey hit three first-half treys and had 12 at the break.

In the second half, Charleston extended its lead to 10 points, 49-39, at 18:11 on a layup by Basra Fahkir. The Bucs chipped away at the lead until gaining a 57-56 advantage with a Wadood layup off an assist by freshman Sam Oatman.

The Bombers would take the lead one more time at 11:07 of the final period before a three-pointer by Carson put the Bucs ahead for good, 62-61, at 10:53. Carson finished the game with another trey with just four seconds remaining.

ETSU begins its regular season at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, November 17 when it hosts Lynchburg College in Brooks Gym.
