JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (Feb. 11, 2003) - After eclipsing his season-high for scoring last week against Georgia Southern and then reaching a career-high Monday night against Western Carolina, East Tennessee State junior forward Jerald Fields (Gainesville, Fla.) has been honored for his efforts by being selected as the Southern Conference Player of the Week for games played between Feb. 5 and Feb. 10, 2003.
Fields, a 6-foot-7, 240-pound junior forward, had a season-high 22 points against Georgia Southern on Feb. 8 and added a career-high 30 points and nine rebounds against Western Carolina on Feb. 10. In those two games last week, Fields averaged 26.0 points per game and 7.5 rebounds while adding a blocked shot and five steals. He converted 19 of 29 field goal attempts (65.5 percent) and made 13 of 16 free throws on the week.
On the season, Fields, a preseason All-Southern Conference selection, is second on the team in scoring with 12.5 ppg and rebounding with 6.1 rpg. He is shooting a team-best 55 percent from the floor for the season and is second on the team in blocks with 31 this year.
