JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (Feb. 9, 2005) - ETSU senior guard Tim Smith (Newport News, Va.) is on the verge of making history as the Bucs prepare to take on the Campbell Fighting Camels in Atlantic Sun Conference men's basketball action Thursday night at the Memorial Center. Tip is set for 7 p.m.

 

Smith, who currently stands at 2,191 points for his career, needs just 14 more points to pass former ETSU great Greg Dennis (1987-1992) as the most prolific scorer in Buccaneer basketball history. Smith already holds a number of ETSU records and has enjoyed a sterling career in Johnson City - one which has been highlighted by back-to-back trips to the NCAA Tournament in 2003 and 2004, as well as numerous individual conference honors.

 

Getting 14 points Thursday night could come quickly, as the Bucs and Fighting Camels possess two of the most powerful offensive teams in the country. Currently, ETSU leads the nation in scoring offense with 84.0 ppg, while Campbell is not far behind with the nation's third-best scoring club with 83.7 a contest. ETSU now leads the A-Sun standings by a half game over second-place Lipscomb and Belmont.
