JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (Dec. 21, 2005) - Last Saturday, as the ETSU men's basketball team prepared for its game with Austin Peay, over 1,100 students received their degrees during graduation ceremonies inside Memorial Center. Two of the students scheduled to receive honors were Buccaneer basketball players Brad Nuckles (Council, Va.) and Ben Rhoda (Dayton, Ohio), but due to the scheduling conflict, neither were able to attend graduation.

On Wednesday, Nuckles, Rhoda, their families, and ETSU officials came together to honor these two Bucs for their academic success. ETSU President Dr. Paul E. Stanton, Jr., Dean of the College of Business Dr. Linda Garceau, College of Business Senior Advisor Timothy Dills, and Director of Intercollegiate Athletics Dave Mullins presented both players with their degrees during a brief ceremony in the president's office at Dossett Hall.

Both Nuckles and Rhoda, who will begin their graduate work next spring, continue a strong academic tradition for the ETSU men's basketball team, which earlier this week was recognized for having a 92 percent graduation rate since the 1995-96 season, the highest such rate among Division I programs in the state of Tennessee.

Nuckles and Rhoda also continue to help ETSU athletics maintain a high graduation rate, with student-athletes graduating at a rate 20 percent higher than traditional students.

Both Nuckles and Rhoda will be honored again prior to Wednesday night's game with Central Michigan. Tip is set for 7 p.m.
