Mullins extends Bartow contract to 2011-2012
Monday, November 26, 2007
"We're very happy to be able to extend Coach Bartow's contract and we look forward to continued success in our men's basketball program," Mullins said. "Under the direction of Coach Bartow, our program continues to succeed on the court, in the classroom and out in the community. Murry has truly worked to better our department as a whole, helping to raise money through BASA, scheduling revenue-generating non-conference games, and putting a winning product on the floor.
"As a department, we're proud to have Coach Bartow continue as our head coach throughout the years to come."
Bartow, who joined the ETSU program in 2003-04, has led the Buccaneers to two of the most successful seasons in program history, winning 27 games in his first season and 24 games a year ago. The 27 wins in 2003-04 rank second on the all-time single season list and the 24 wins in 2006-07 ranks tied for fifth. In addition, Bartow has guided the Bucs to three championships, winning both the Southern Conference regular season and tournament titles in 2003-04, and capturing the Atlantic Sun regular season championship a year ago.
With an overall record of 78-50 at ETSU (61 percent), Bartow has been named Coach of the Year both in the Southern Conference (2004) and A-Sun (2007). Beginning his fifth season on the ETSU bench, Bartow has led the Bucs to the postseason twice, with an NCAA Tournament berth in 2004 and a National Invitation Tournament trip in 2007.
"I want to thank Coach Mullins and President Stanton for allowing me the opportunity to guide the ETSU men's basketball program," Bartow said. "We are continuing to build on an already strong men's basketball tradition, and my staff and I are dedicated to working as hard as possible to continue to win championships. More importantly, it is our goal to build quality young men through their experiences as student-athletes at ETSU. Whether on the court, in the classroom or through community service, we want to develop our players into quality individuals."
