JOHNSON CITY (Nov. 20, 2012) – ETSU men’s basketball head coach Murry Bartow announced Tuesday that the Buccaneers have added their second signee to the 2013-14 recruiting class.
Maurice O’Field, a 6-foot-5, 195-pound swingman from Cleveland, Ohio, signed his national letter of intent with the Bucs late last week. O’Field – who averaged 17 points, eight rebounds, four assists, two steals and two blocks a game as a junior – was an all-city selection last season for Cleveland Heights High School.
“We’re really happy to have Maurice join our program,” Bartow said. “He is an extremely athletic player who can really score the basketball. He can play on the defensive end as well, and we really like his motor. Maurice is a great kid, and we think he’s someone who can come in and contribute immediately.”
O’Field said his decision to leave the big city and head south to the hills of Tennessee came down to a feeling.
“It just felt comfortable and a perfect fit for me,” said O’Field, who also garnered interest from schools such as West Virginia and Ohio. “Coach Bartow and Coach (Mike) Boyd made me feel at home there. When I looked at everything on campus and met the team, it seemed like the right place for me. The style of play defensively and a get-out-and-run offensive game is what fits me, and that seemed like what they were doing at ETSU.”
O’Field joins A.J. Merriweather of Jackson, Tenn., as the first two members of the Bucs’ 2013-14 recruiting class.
