JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (June 9, 2015) – ETSU head men’s basketball coach Steve Forbes announced Tuesday that the Buccaneers have added transfer Hanner Mosquera-Perea (Istmina, Colombia) to the team’s 2015-16 recruiting class.

Mosquera-Perea, a 6-foot-9, 225-pound forward who played the last three seasons in the Big 10 Conference at Indiana University, will be required by NCAA rules to sit out the 2015-16 season, but will be eligible for his senior season in 2016-17. During his junior year at IU, he played 19.5 minutes per game, averaging 6.5 points and 2.7 rebounds to go with a team-high 33 blocks for the Hoosiers.

“I’ve known Hanner since he came to the United States over seven years ago,” Forbes said. “During that time, I’ve watched him steadily improve and grow into a starter at Indiana, where he contributed on two NCAA Tournament teams. He is a tremendous athlete and will be a great addition to our program next year.”

As a senior in high school, Mosquera-Perea was the No. 9 rated power forward in his class and the overall No. 43 rated recruit in the nation according to Rivals.com, making him likely the most decorated recruit in ETSU program history.

Over his three seasons at Indiana, he averaged 11.2 minutes per game, while also netting a total of 265 points, 202 rebounds and 51 blocks with the Hoosiers. He also shot over 57 percent from the floor and 61 percent from the foul line during his time in Bloomington.

Mosquera-Perea said ETSU was the right fit for him at this point in his college career.

“I have known the coaches, especially Coach Forbes, for a long time now and I know he’s the right coach for me,” said Mosquera-Perea, who played alongside ETSU teammate Peter Jurkin (Juba, South Sudan) at both Indiana and United Faith Christian Academy. “Coach Forbes and Peter told me a lot about the school, the players, the community and the fans, and I knew right then that this was the place I wanted to be. I’m going to do whatever I can do to help the team win, and I’m going to spend the next year stepping up my game and working hard so when I get back out there I’m able to make a difference for this team.”

Mosquera-Perea joins Jurkin, junior college transfers T.J. Cromer (Albany, Ga.) and Nigel Holley (Wilmington, N.C.), and prep signee Shemar Johnson (Columbus, Miss.) as members of the Buccaneers’ recruiting class.
