JOHNSON CITY (Nov. 2, 2015) – The ETSU Department of Intercollegiate Athletics and Johnson City Honda announced Monday an exciting new basketball promotion for the upcoming 2015-16 men’s and women’s basketball season.
The Johnson City Honda “So You Think You Can Sing?” Challenge will match a field of 32 contestants in one-on-one competitions with a tournament-style bracket at halftime of ETSU basketball games throughout the season. Ultimately, four semifinalists will be on hand at the Buccaneers’ final men’s basketball game of the year against Wofford on Feb. 27 to learn who ultimately earned the most votes and will be crowned the winner of the challenge.
The contest winner will have the choice of a three-year lease on a 2016 Honda Civic or $7,500 cash.
“We loved the idea of doing something different at the games this season and this is a great way to connect with our customers, as well as fans of ETSU basketball,” said Johnson City Honda’s Joe Trujillo. “It will be a lot of fun to see the talent we have in this area, and it will be interesting to watch the tournament progress throughout the season. It’s going to be exciting.”
Fans interested in attempting to compete in the contest and be one of the 32 selected participants should send a 30-second audition video to Tyler McCann in the ETSU Department of Intercollegiate Athletics. Videos should be submitted to McCann at his e-mail address: email@example.com. Deadline for submission is Monday, Nov. 9. The full 32-person field will be released later that same day.
Winners of the individual matchups will be selected by the fans. Following each performance, fans will be able to vote for their favorite singer for up to one hour following ETSU basketball games by utilizing the ETSU Game Time App, which can be downloaded to Apple and Android devices. In addition, fans can visit the official ETSU Athletics Facebook page and “like” their favorite performer until noon on the day following each performance. Winners of each matchup will be announced at 5 p.m. on that same day following the competition.
The full 32-performer bracket will be made available in the coming week, but the first one-on-one competition will be held Thursday night at halftime of the Bucs’ exhibition game with Tusculum inside Freedom Hall. The second matchup will be on Saturday afternoon as the women’s basketball team hosts Milligan College at Brooks Gym.
