SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Senior guard Ge’Lawn Guyn (Lexington, Ky.) has been named the Southern Conference Men’s Basketball Player of the Week for all games played Jan. 19-25.
Guyn averaged 19.0 points and 3.5 rebounds during the week, and came up big for the Buccaneers as ETSU earned a pair of overtime wins over Mercer (65-63) and The Citadel (101-92).
Tallying 18 points, three rebounds and two steals against the Bears, Guyn hit a shot with 28 seconds left to force overtime and then scored with 2.6 seconds left in the extra period to lift the Bucs to the win.
He followed that performance with 20 points, four rebounds, an assist, a steal and a blocked shot in 30 minutes against The Citadel on Saturday afternoon. Guyn scored to tie the game with 14 seconds left in regulation and the Bucs were able to outscore the Bulldogs 15-6 in the overtime session.
Guyn – who joins teammate T.J. Cromer (Albany, Ga.) as a SoCon POTW honoree this year – ranks second in the Southern Conference in scoring with 17.4 points per game and is fifth in the league with 2.5 made 3-pointers per contest. ETSU (13-7, 6-1 SoCon) returns to action Thursday when the Bucs visit Wofford (8-12, 4-3 SoCon).
Other top performers in the Southern Conference included The Citadel’s Quayson Williams, Mercer’s Jestin Lewis, Samford’s Wyatt Walker, Chattanooga’s Eric Robertson, VMI’s QJ Peterson, Western Carolina’s Elijah Pughsley and Wofford’s Eric Garcia.
