JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (Oct. 18, 2016) – The ETSU men’s and women’s basketball teams held a special publicity event on Tuesday, as members of the Tri-Cities media converged on 50fifty Sports Tavern in Johnson City to talk with the Buccaneers’ coaches and players.
ETSU men’s head coach Steve Forbes, along with seniors T.J. Cromer (Albany, Ga.), Peter Jurkin (Juba, South Sudan) and Isaac Banks(New Orleans, La.), spoke about the anticipation of the upcoming season after a 2015-16 campaign in which the Buccaneers won 24 games, made an appearance in the Southern Conference finals, and earned a berth in the inaugural Vegas 16 postseason tournament.
Meanwhile, on the women’s side, head coach Brittney Ezell, along with junior Tianna Tarter (Johnson City, Tenn.) and sophomore Raven Dean (Charlotte, N.C.), talked about the highly anticipated non-conference schedule featuring home games against Old Dominion, Vanderbilt and Tennessee.
Basketball season is right around the corner as the men host Mars Hill in an exhibition on Saturday, Nov.5 at 4:00 p.m. inside Freedom Hall. The following day the women’s basketball team hosts Emory & Henry in an exhibition inside Brooks Gym at 4:00 p.m. The regular season for both the men and women gets underway on Friday, Nov.11 as the men host Fordham, while the women travel to Indianapolis, Ind., to take on Big East opponent Butler.
As for promotions leading into the season, the Bucs have the following events scheduled:
Oct. 24 – BLUENANZA ’16 presented by Johnson City Honda will be held in Brooks Gym and will get underway at 7 p.m. on Oct. 24. The event is open to the public and will feature both programs in traditional 3-point shooting challenges, dunk exhibitions, and intra-squad workouts. Special contests and prizes will also be held for fans and students.
Nov. 1st – HOLDING COURT Pizza and Practice presented by Johnson City Honda with head coach Brittney Ezell and the women’s basketball team will be held inside Brooks Gym beginning at 7 p.m. This event is free to the public and will include an open, interactive practice featuring audience participation, free pizza and drinks.
Nov. 3rd – HOLDING COURT Pasta and Practice with head coach Steve Forbes and the men’s basketball team will be held inside the ETSU/MSHA Athletics Center beginning at 6 p.m. The event will feature a live practice, a social event with the men’s basketball staff, live auction items and a pasta dinner.
