JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (Nov. 14, 2016) – ETSU men’s basketball head coach Steve Forbes announced Monday that 6-foot-4 forward Bo Hodges (Nashville) from Maplewood High School has signed a national letter of intent to join the Buccaneers 2017-18 recruiting class.

Hodges, the 2016 Class AA Mr. Basketball in the state of Tennessee, becomes the first signee in next year’s recruiting class. A first-team all-district, all-region and all-state selection during his junior campaign, Hodges averaged 22 points, 12 rebounds and four assists a game in 2015-16 for head coach Ty Wilson at Maplewood.

“Bo is one of the top high school basketball players in the state of Tennessee,” Forbes said. “He can score the ball from behind the arc and at the rim. He is very skilled with the ball and is a very good passer. For someone his age, Bo possesses tremendous physical attributes that will allow him be successful the first day he steps on campus.

“I love the fact that Bo is a standout two-sport athlete, excelling on the court and on the gridiron. He recently led his team to the state playoffs and was recruited to play Division I football as a wide receiver.”

Hodges, who played AAU basketball for the Tennessee Legends and was coached by his father Bo Hodges, Sr., said Coach Forbes’ approach during the signing process made all the difference.

“He was just really honest and straight forward with me and I appreciated that,” said Hodges, who had more than 10 offers from other Division I programs. “I like where the program is heading and everything they are doing. The style of play, Coach Forbes’ history of success, all of it just made this the place for me.”

While Hodges is the first signee for the Bucs for 2017-18, more will be on the way as ETSU has six seniors to replace off the current roster. For more on ETSU men’s basketball throughout the 2016-17 season, visit ETSUBucs.com and click on the men’s hoops link.
