JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (Aug. 23,  2018) – ETSU men’s basketball head coach Steve Forbes announced Thursday the addition of Oklahoma State transfer Lucas N’Guessan (De Lier, Netherlands) to the Buccaneers’ roster. By NCAA rule, the 7-foot center will sit out the upcoming 2018-19 season and will have two years of eligibility with ETSU beginning with the 2019-20 season.

In his two years with the Cowboys, N’Guessan started 17 games and made a total of 54 appearances, leading the team in shooting percentage as a freshman (67.4 percent). Prior to his time at Oklahoma State, N’Guessan played three seasons at the Canarias Basketball Academy in Spain and represented his home country the Netherlands by playing in the 2015 U18 FIBA Championships, averaging 3.9 points and 5.1 rebounds per game.

"We are very excited to have Lucas in our program,” Forbes said. “He brings great size and Big 12 experience to our roster. Having the opportunity this upcoming year to sit out and work on his game and in the weight room, will be invaluable to his future and ours."

N’Guessan, who is fluent in four languages, enjoyed quality performances during his time in the Big XII Conference, including a six-point, seven-rebound performance against Maryland his freshman year. During his sophomore season, he shot 52.5 percent from the field and ranked second on the team in that category.

"I'm very excited to start new beginnings and I'm determined to make the upcoming year a great one with my teammates and coaches,” N’Guessan said. “ETSU has become one of the top mid-majors in the country and I really like what Coach Forbes and his staff have built."

While he will be able to practice with the Bucs this season, N’Guessan is the first player to join the recruiting class that will make their debut in 2019-20.
