JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (Dec. 2, 2018)– After getting a taste of Southern Conference play on Saturday, the ETSU men’s basketball team steps back into non-conference action as the Buccaneers host Reinhardt on Monday night. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m. inside Freedom Hall.
ABOUT THE BUCS
LAST TIME OUT
ETSU had its five-game win streak snapped as the Blue and Gold fell in their SoCon opener at Wofford 79-62 on Saturday night … Following the setback, the Bucs moved to 6-3 on the season … Isaiah Tisdale (Lexington, Ky.), Patrick Good (Johnson City, Tenn.) and Bo Hodges (Nashville, Tenn.) combined for 50 points on 17-of-26 shooting, while the rest of the team went 4-of-29 from the field … ETSU pulled within 54-53 with just over seven minutes to play, but Wofford closed the game on the 25-9 run to pick up the 17-point win … The Bucs scored 14 points off turnovers; however, ETSU surrendered 18 second-chance points and 34 points in the paint.
BUCS EXTEND THREE-POINT STREAK
ETSU made nine three-pointers in Saturday’s game at Wofford en route to extending its streak of making at least one three-pointer to 972 consecutive games … The Bucs’ streak ranks sixth nationally with UNLV leading the country at 1,046 games.
HOME SWEET HOME
Since head coach Steve Forbes took over in 2015-16, the Bucs have had a lot of success playing inside Freedom Hall … Overall, ETSU is 42-8 (.840) inside Freedom Hall during this stretch, while the Bucs have also won 20 of their last 23 non-conference home games.
FORBES WINNING PERCENTAGE AMONG THE NATION’S BEST
During his time at ETSU, head coach Steve Forbes has posted a winning percentage of .726 (82-31), which ranks 12th nationally among active coaches with at least three years of NCAA Division I experience entering this year. ... ETSU’s head coach ranks ahead of coaches Gregg Marshall (Wichita State), Bruce Pearl (Auburn), Jamie Dixon (TCU), Jim Boeheim (Syracuse), Tom Izzo (Michigan State), Bob Huggins (West Virginia), Archie Miller (Indiana), Jay Wright (Villanova) and Steve Alford (UCLA).
RODRIGUEZ THE REBOUNDING MACHINE
Heading into Saturday’s game, junior forward Jeromy Rodriguez (Santiago, Dominican Republic) led all Division I players in total rebounds (100), ranked second in rebounds per game (12.5) and third in offensive rebounds per game (4.63) … Rodriguez has also recorded four double-doubles this season, which ranks ninth nationally.
ETSU has five players scoring in double figures this season with junior guard Tray Boyd III (Memphis, Tenn.) leading the team at 12.3 points per contest … Tisdale (12.0 ppg), Hodges (11.8), Good (11.1) and Rodriguez (10.7) are also averaging doubles in scoring.
75 AND ABOVE
Since the 2015-16 season, ETSU has scored 75 or more points 66 times … The Bucs are 59-7 in those contests, while the Blue and Gold have reached the century mark in six of those games.
WE’RE HEADED TO OVERTIME
ETSU has won its last five overtime games, while the Bucs haven’t lost an overtime game in 1,369 days (March 6, 2015, vs. Western Carolina).
Reinhardt has dropped its last three games and enters Monday’s game with an overall record of 5-6.
The Eagles are coming off an 84-79 setback to Bluefield on Saturday, marking Reinhardt’s first home loss of the season.
As a team, Reinhardt is averaging 81.4 points per game but they are giving up 87.5 ppg … The Eagles are shooting 40 percent from the field and averaging 8.5 threes per game, compared to their opponents shooting just under 50 percent and averaging eight three-pointers per contest.
The Eagles have totaled 100 steals in their first 11 games, while forcing 20.3 turnovers per contest.
Reinhardt has four players averaging double figures in scoring with senior guard/forward Samuel Bunkley leading the team at 16.3 points and 3.2 assists per game, while shooting 42 percent from beyond the arc… Senior forward Dorea Wilson is averaging 16 points and senior guard/forward Latroy Strong is posting 11.7 points and 6.4 rebounds per contest.
The Eagles have scored over 80 points seven times this season, including three 90-plus point efforts in their first 11 games.
Reinhardt was picked to finish third in the Appalachian Athletic Conference.
Monday marks the first ever meeting between the two programs.
