SPARTANBURG, S.C. (Jan. 9, 2019) -- ETSU sophomore forward Mladen Armus (Belgrade, Serbia) was named Southern Conference Student-Athlete of the Week, which was announced by the league office on Wednesday.

Armus, who helped guide the Bucs to wins over Samford and Chattanooga last week, averaged 9.5 points and 13.5 rebounds, while shooting 64 percent (7-11) from the field in the two games.

The Buccaneer sophomore began the week with his third career double-double in the 81-72 overtime win over Samford last Thursday. Armus finished with 11 points (5-of-7 shooting) and a career-high 17 rebounds against the Bulldogs. On Saturday, Armus scored eight points (4-of-4 at free throw line) and pulled down a game-high 10 rebounds in the 96-70 victory over Chattanooga.

Armus, a computing major with a 3.371 cumulative grade point average, ranks 31st nationally in total rebounds (142), while he is one of six ETSU players to be averaging over eight points per game this season (8.7).

Armus is the first Buccaneer men’s basketball player to receive the honor, while he is the second Buccaneer student-athlete to earn the award this year. Sarah Connolly of women’s soccer won the award on Sept. 26.

Armus and the Bucs are gearing up for a two-game road swing beginning Thursday night at The Citadel.
