Game to be broadcast locally on ABC Tri-Cities  

GREENVILLE, S.C. (Feb. 8, 2019) -- Coming off a heartbreaking overtime loss to Wofford on Thursday, the ETSU men’s basketball team looks to bounce back into the win column when the Bucs hit the road to take on Furman Saturday afternoon inside Timmons Arena. Tip-off is set for 4 p.m.

Saturday’s game is part of the SoCon, Nexstar broadcast package and will be televised locally on ABC Tri-Cities.



Bo Hodges (Nashville, Tenn.) hit the game-tying three-pointer in regulation, and the Bucs held a one-point lead in the final minute of overtime; however, Wofford’s Fletcher Magee hit the go-ahead three with 30 seconds remaining to lift Wofford to a 78-76 win over the Blue and Gold on Thursday night inside Freedom Hall … In a game that saw 10 ties and nine lead changes, neither led by more than six points the entire night … Patrick Good (Johnson City, Tenn.) led the Bucs with 18 points, while Jeromy Rodriguez (Santiago, Dominican Republic) and Mladen Armus (Belgrade, Serbia) both finished with double-doubles … Rodriguez ended with 15 points and 17 rebounds and Armus added 12 points and 10 boards – marking the second time this season the Buccaneer duo tallied double-doubles in the same contest … Hodges finished with 15 points, six rebounds and five assists in 40 minutes of work … As a team, the Bucs shot 42 percent from the field (29-69), but went 8-of-15 at the free throw line and out-rebounded Wofford, 44-32.


Over the last three games, ETSU point guards Isaiah Tisdale (Lexington, Ky.) and Daivien Williamson (Winston-Salem, N.C.) have combined for 19 assists and zero turnovers … Tisdale has 13 assists and Williamson has dished out six assists … As a team, the Bucs have 17.3 assists to 9.7 turnovers over the last three contests.


The Bucs had a season-high 5,911 fans inside Freedom Hall on Thursday night … ETSU is averaging a SoCon-best 4,337 fans, which is 1,209 better than next closest team (Chattanooga) … The Blue and Gold rank 33rd in average attendance among teams not in the Power-5, Big East and American, while the Bucs are averaging more fans than Central Florida (4,309), Big East foe DePaul (4,194), MTSU (4,082), Charlotte (3,868), Davidson (3,786), and Pac 12 foes Stanford (3,483), USC (3,073) and Washington State (2,121).


The Bucs’ are currently No. 64 in the NET Rankings … ETSU’s previous RPI finishes include 94th (2017-18), 57th (2016-17), 84th (2015-16), 192nd (2014-15), 208th (2013-14), 271st (2012-13) and 174th (2011-12).


ETSU suffered its first overtime loss in 1,435 days … The Bucs had won their first seven overtime games in the Coach Forbes era … The last overtime loss prior to Thursday night was back on March 7, 2015.  


Not only were the Bucs dealt their first overtime loss of the season, but it also marked ETSU’s first loss when leading at the half this year (13-1) and the first when scoring over 70 points (18-1) … It was also the first loss on a Thursday for the Blue and Gold (5-1).


Since Feb. 16, 1987 in a game against Davidson, the Bucs have made at least one 3-pointer in 988 consecutive game. ... ETSU was 0-for-8 in that 1987 game ... The Bucs currently rank as the sixth longest streak in the NCAA, with UNLV topping the list.


The Bucs are one win away from recording their 20th win of the season, which would mark the fourth straight year Coach Forbes’ squad has accomplished the feat … There’s only one other time in program the Blue and Gold have posted four straight 20-win seasons, which occurred from 1988-89 to 1991-92.


The Bucs have won their last seven games played away from Johnson City – defeating Wyoming (76-53), Norfolk State (89-61), The Citadel (98-73), Mercer (72-68), Western Carolina (91-69), Samford (74-66) and Chattanooga (77-64) … Over this seven-game stretch, ETSU is winning by 17.6 points per game, while averaging 82.4 points and outrebounding its opponents by 12.6 per contest … Individually, Patrick Good is averaging 16.9 points per game, while shooting 47 percent from beyond the arc (30-64) during this run … Junior forward Jeromy Rodriguez is posting 11.7 points and 10.3 rebounds and sophomore guard Bo Hodges is averaging 8.4 points, 5.4 rebounds, 3.0 assists and 1.4 steals.


Furman is coming off a 64-45 win at Western Carolina on Thursday night to improve to 19-5 overall, 8-4 in the SoCon.

The Paladins have won three straight and seven of their last 10 since falling to the Bucs by 23 back on Dec. 29.

Furman has won 10 of its 11 games inside Timmons Arena with the lone setback being a 75-73 decision to Samford back on Jan. 26 … The Paladins are 48-9 at home since the start of the 2015-16 season.

The Paladins are led by Matt Rafferty and Jordan Lyons as they are averaging 16.9 and 16.4 points per game, respectively … Rafferty is also posting 9.1 rebounds and 4.2 assists per game, while shooting 63 percent from the field and 75 percent at the free throw line … Lyons leads the team with 80 made threes.

Rafferty ranks fifth in the SoCon in scoring and Lyons is seventh … Rafferty also leads the SoCon in field goal percentage, ranks third in rebounding and fourth in assists and blocks (1.2) … Lyons ranks fifth with 3.3 three-pointers made per game.

As a team, Furman leads the SoCon in scoring defense (66.0), three-point field goal percentage defense (.321), blocked shots (4.0), assists (16.3) and steals (9.0).


The Bucs lead the all-time series, 31-27, including wins in three of the last four and seven of the last 10 meetings.

ETSU defeated Furman by 23 (79-56) back on Dec. 29 in Johnson City … Jeromy Rodriguez posted 19 points and 11 rebounds, while the Bucs shot 60 percent for the game (30-50) and held the Paladins to a 37 percent clip (20-54).

The Bucs won last year’s meeting in Greenville on Desonta Bradford’s game-winning shot with 4.5 seconds remaining to give ETSU the 62-61 victory.

Mladen Armus is averaging 7.3 points and 7.3 rebounds in four career games versus Furman, while Bo Hodges is posting six points, 2.8 rebounds and three assists in four games against the Paladins.
