Saturday, October 01, 2011
LOUISVILLE, Ky. (Oct. 1, 2011) – Competing in the largest cross country meet in the south region, freshmen Filip Jalovy (Modrice, Czech Republic) and Isabelle Grosskopff (Telgte, Germany) led the ETSU men’s and women’s cross country teams across the finish line at the 10th annual Greater Louisville Classic on Saturday afternoon.
Jalovy, who was one of 240 student-athletes competing in the 8,000m Gold race, turned in a time of 25:00.33 and placed 56th. Overall, Jalovy shaved one minute and thirty-eight seconds off his previous best mark on Saturday at the prestigious E.P. ‘Tom’ Sawyer State Park. Previously, Jalovy’s best collegiate mark came in the Bucs’ season opener when he finished the 8K Covered Bridge Open course with a time of 26:38.40.
On the women’s side, Grosskopff showcased her best run of the year as she placed fifth among a field of 257 runners in the Blue Division. Grosskopff finished the 5,000m course in 18:15.23, marking the 14th fastest time by an A-Sun runner this season. In addition, Grosskopff decreased her season-best time by 35 seconds on Saturday.
Individually, sophomore Tyler Byrne from Louisville won the men’s Gold race with a time of 23:47.12.
