BOONE, N.C. (Oct. 13, 2011) – The ETSU men’s and women’s cross country teams will make one final tune-up before competing at the Atlantic Sun Championships, as the Bucs make their third trip to Boone, N.C. this season to race in the Blue Ridge Open on Friday afternoon.
The Bucs, who already competed in the Covered Bridge Open and Mountaineer Open back in September, return to the familiar grounds of the State Farm Fields for the 5K women’s race and 8K men’s course.
The field consists of 26 teams which include former SoCon rivals Appalachian State, College of Charleston, and Furman, and ACC foes Wake Forest and Virginia Tech.
ETSU last raced in Louisville when a pair of freshman runners led the Blue and Gold across the finish line at the Greater Louisville Classic back on Oct. 1. Filip Jalovy (Modrice, Czech Republic) finished 56th (out of 240 runners) after clocking in at 25:00.33, while Isabelle Grosskopff (Telgte, Germany) showcased her best run of the year as she placed fifth among a field of 257 runners in the Blue Division. Grosskopff finished the 5,000m course in 18:15.23, marking the 14th fastest time by an A-Sun runner this season.
Following the Blue Ridge Open, the Bucs will gear up for the A-Sun Championships, which will be contested on Saturday, Oct. 29 in Nashville.
