SPARTANBURG, S.C. (May 29, 2018) -- For the third consecutive year and fourth time in program history, the ETSU men’s athletics program was awarded the Southern Conference Commissioner’s Cup, which is the all-sport trophy that is presented to the conference’s best all-around men’s program.
For the second straight year, the ETSU Department of Intercollegiate Athletics will launch a special day of giving in support of Buccaneer student-athletes on Wednesday, April 11th.
SPARTANBURG, S.C. (Jan. 17, 2018) -- Forty-five ETSU student-athletes earned spots on the Fall 2017 Academic All-Southern Conference Team, as the league office announced the awards on Tuesday.
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. (November 10, 2017) – The 2017 season came to end for ETSU’s cross country teams at the NCAA South Regional on Friday, but the Bucs got a glimpse of a promising future. Each ETSU team got its top performance from a freshman in a crowded field on the Henry Pritchett Running Park in Tuscaloosa, Ala. Lindsey Stallworth (Knoxville, Tenn.) was 24th out of 228 runners in the women’s 6K, and Ben Varghese (Kingsport, Tenn.) finished 18th out of 164 in the men’s 10K. The Buc women were 18th out of 31 teams in the scoring. The men were 14th out of 24.
JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (Nov. 9, 2017) – ETSU’s cross country teams bring some momentum with them as they prepare for their biggest test and most important race of the season -- the NCAA South Regional meet on Friday in Tuscaloosa, Ala. Over the last three meets, the men’s team has a win and two runner-up showings, while the women have a victory and two 3rd-place performances. Both victories came at the HPU VertCross Invitational on October 13. In their most recent outing – the Southern Conference Championships on October 28 – the men were 2nd and the women 3rd.
JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (Oct. 30, 2017) – Fresh off their runner-up performance at the Southern Conference Championships last weekend, ETSU’s men’s cross country team has moved up in the rankings. The Bucs are #12 in the new United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association South Region Week 6 poll, released Monday. That’s up one spot from Week 5 and the highest ranking for ETSU this season. It’s the best showing in the USTFCCCA regional hierarchy since the Bucs were 12th in the Week 6 poll in in 2013.
SPARTANBURG, S.C. (Oct. 28, 2017) – Going into Saturday’s Southern Conference Cross Country Championships, ETSU head coach George Watts said, “top three finishes are very realistic” for both Bucs teams. He got that, and a little more. The ETSU men finished 2nd and the women 3rd on a cloudy, 56-degree day on the Milliken Research Center course in Spartanburg, S.C. It was the best showing for the Buc men since 2014 and the second straight 3rd-place showing for the women. Six ETSU athletes received all-conference recognition.
JOHNSON CITY, Tenn (Oct. 27, 2017) – In collegiate cross country, every meet is important. But some are more important than others. That’s the attitude ETSU’s teams are taking as they prepare for the annual Southern Conference Championships, to be held Saturday, October 28 in Spartanburg, S.C. ETSU has performed well in 2017. The Bucs have finished 5th or better in each of their four “regular season” meets this season, including a sweep of the team titles at USC Upstate Invite on September 30. That victory came on the Milliken Research Center course in Spartanburg, the same venue that will host the SoCon meet.

JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (Oct. 16, 2017) – After a three-week absence, the ETSU men’s cross country team has returned to the regional rankings. The Bucs are #13 in the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association’s Week 5 South Region poll, released on Monday. It’s the fourth appearance in six polls this season and the first since the Bucs were #15 in the September 25 rankings. Since then, ETSU won the 14-team USC Upstate Invite on September 30 and were in 2nd in the 17-team HPU Vertcross Invitational on October 13.
KERNERSVILLE, N.C. (Oct. 13, 2017) – Paced by top-five finishes from a pair of freshmen, each of ETSU’s cross country teams produced a solid showing on Friday in the HPU Vertcross Invitational in Kernersville, N.C. The men’s team was a close 2nd out of 17 teams, and the women 3rd in a competitive 16-team field, on the looped two-kilometer course at the Ivey M. Redmon Sports Complex, hosted by High Point University. Lindsay Stallworth (Knoxville, Tenn.) was third in the women’s 6K race, while Ben Varghese (Kingsport, Tenn.) finished in the same spot in the men’s 8K.
JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (Oct. 12, 2017) – ETSU’s cross country teams seek to carry the momentum of their last meet into their next meet, and the meets after that, when they take in part of the HPU Vert Invitational on Friday in Kernersville, N.C. The Bucs swept the women’s and men’s titles in their last event, the USC Upstate Invite, on September 30. Friday’s meet is ETSU’s last tuneup before the Southern Conference Championship on October 28. The NCAA South Regional meet follows on November 10.

(Sept. 30, 2017) – ETSU’s cross country teams began the “stretch run” of their 2017 season the best way they could, sweeping the women’s and men’s championships at the USC Upstate Invitational in Spartanburg, S.C. on Saturday. Running the same course that will host the Southern Conference Championship meet in less than a month, each ETSU squad bested runner-up Appalachian State – the men by 21 points and the women on a tiebreaker.

(Sept. 15, 2017) -- Paced by strong showings from a group of youngsters, both of ETSU’s cross country teams finished in the top five of the Virginia Tech Alumni Invitational on Friday in Blacksburg, Va. Freshman Ben Varghese was 5th in the men's race. Another freshman, Lindsay Stallworth was 11th in the women’s race.
