Johnson City, Tenn. (Mar. 12, 2002) -- The East Tennessee State men's golf team finished tied for ninth after Tuesday's final round of the Florida State Seminole Intercollegiate from Golden Eagle Country Club in Tallahassee, Fla.
The Bucs ended the tournament tied with Mississippi, 25 strokes back of team champion, North Carolina. ETSU was remarkably consistent in their three rounds of play, shooting a 301 and a 299 on Monday and a 300 in Tuesday's round.
Senior James Johnson (Barbados) led the Bucs throughout the tournament, finishing in a tie for 21st at 8-over-par (73-75-76=224). Freshman Cennydd Mills (Cardiff, Wales) finished just one stroke behind Johnson after tying for the team's best round of the tournament with a 72 on Tuesday. He ended the tournament tied for 24th at 9-over-par (77-76-72=225).
Senior Adam Riddering (Maple Grove, Minn.) was the next ETSU finisher, tying for 30th at 11-over-par (75-72-80=227). Freshman Jeremy Hobson (Thonotosassa, Fla.) finished two strokes back of Riddering, tying for 39th at 13-over-par (76-76-77=229). Fellow freshman Marco Trejos (San Jose, Costa Rica) rounded out ETSU's day, tying for 63rd at 19-over-par (77-83-75).
The Buccaneer men's golfers now return home before competing in the Schenkel E-Z-GO Invitational, Mar. 23-24, from Forest Heights Country Club in Statesboro, Ga.
