Johnson City, Tenn. (Feb. 26, 2002) -- The East Tennessee State men's golf finished seventh after shooting a final-round 300 in Tuesday in the Puerto Rico Classic from the Rio Del Mar Country Club River Course in San Juan, Puerto Rico.
The tournament was won by Georgia Tech (275-275-279=829), who won the tournament by 25 strokes over Clemson. East Tennessee State finished with a three-day total of 883 (295-288-300), 54 strokes back of the Yellow Jackets. The Bucs finished ahead of schools such as Georgia, Oklahoma and Texas.
Seniors James Johnson (74-70-77=221)(Barbados) and Adam Riddering (72-70-79=221)(Maple Grove, Minn.) and freshman Marco Trejos (74-75-72=221) (San Jose, Costa Rica) were the best Buccaneer finishers, tying for 28th at 5-over-par.
Freshman Cennydd Mills (Cardiff, Wales) was the next Buccaneer finisher, tying for 40th (78-73-73=224=224) after shooting his second consecutive 73 in the final round of play. Fellow freshman Jeremy Hobson (Thonotosassa, Fla.) rounded out ETSU's day, finishing in 70th (75-83-78=236) after firing a 78 on the final day of play.
The Bucs return to action on March 11-12 as they travel to Tallahassee, Fla. to compete in the Seminole Classic, hosted by Florida State University.
