The Buccaneers, who enjoy a team-score of 5-over-par 289, are seven strokes behind front-running College of Charleston and the University of Tennessee at 2-under-par 282. While ETSU also trails ranked teams such as No. 11 North Carolina and No. 6 Wake Forest, the Bucs are leading other prominent, high profile teams such as No. 13 Northwestern.
While Baldwin finished tied for fourth place on the leaderboard, fellow sophomore Jeremy Hobson (Thonotosassa, Fla.) finished in a tie for 14th with a first-round score of even-par 72. Meanwhile, seniors Adam Riddering (Maple Grove, Minn.) and James Johnson (Barbados) provided scores of 73 and 75, respectively. Riddering is currently tied for 26th and Johnson is tied for 37th. True freshman Derek McNamara (Galway, Ireland) wrapped up the Bucs first round scores with a 4-over 76.
In the individual competition, North Carolina's Dustin Bray is leading the event with a 5-under 67, while Wake Forest's Bill Haas and Tennessee's Ian Parnaby are tied for second place at 4-under.
