MACON, Ga. (April 5, 2007) - After earning medalist honors in both events he participated in and capturing the nation's No. 1 ranking, ETSU senior Rhys Davies (Bridgend, Wales) has been named the Atlantic Sun's Golfer of the Month for March, league officials announced Thursday.
Davies, a two-time, first-team All-American, recorded rounds of 73, 68 and 69 (210, -6) at the Seminole Intercollegiate and carded a 70, 65 and 71 (206, -10) at the General Hackler Invitational to earn individual championships at each event. His two titles during the Month of March improves his ETSU record for titles to 10.
Along with earning two titles, Davies was tabbed the best in the nation by the Golfweek/Sagarin individual rankings. Davies was also honored with a similar award on Monday when the Southern Golf Association named him its National Amateur of the Month for March.
The A-Sun Golfer of the Month honor is the eighth of his career since ETSU joined the Atlantic Sun in 2005. His eighth Golfer of the Month awards is a conference record and his honor this month marks the second consecutive season that Davies has earned the honor four separate times.
The Atlantic Sun Golfer of the Month is announced on Thursday during the first full week of the month.
