BRASELTON, Ga. (March 31, 2009) - ETSU junior Seamus Power (Waterford, Ireland) collected his third career individual title, firing a final round 74 to earn top honors Tuesday in the Larry Nelson Collegiate Invitational at the Chateau Elan Resort's Woodland Course.
While Power tied for the top spot with Stetson's Tommy Parker, the 25th-ranked Buccaneers could not overcome the Hatters on the team leaderboard, as ETSU's Atlantic Sun Conference foe took the team title with a score of 21-over-par 873. The Hatters edged both ETSU and Murray State by just one stroke, as the Bucs missed out on a chance to pick up their second straight team title after winning the Kauai Collegiate Cup earlier this month.
Though the Bucs just missed on the team title, Power's overall effort of even-par 213 (70-69-74) was good enough to best the field. His most recent win will go alongside earlier championships in the Jerry Pate National Intercollegiate last year, as well as his 2007 Atlantic Sun Conference Championship title.
Along with Power's first-place effort, ETSU freshman Michael Stewart (Troon, Scotland) tied for third at 2-over 215 (67-72-76), posting a season best 67 in the first round. Meanwhile, sophomore Rhys Enoch (Cornwall, England) tied for 12th at 8-over 221, as sophomore Paul O'Kane (Castledawson, Northern Ireland) finished tied for 33rd and senior Jordan Findlay (Fraserburgh, Scotland) tied for 41st.
The Bucs will return to action on Sunday, April 5 in the U.S. Collegiate Championship in Alpharetta, Ga. For more on ETSU men's golf throughout the spring season, visit ETSUBucs.com and click on the men's golf link.
