All but insures PGA Tour card for next season
MIDLAND, Texas (Sept. 28, 2009) - Former ETSU All-American Garrett Willis (Maryville, Tenn.) added yet another trophy to his collection of professional tour wins on Sunday, capturing a one stroke win in the Nationwide Tour's WNB Golf Classic.
With the victory, Willis moved to No. 6 on the Nationwide Tour money list this year, which all but assures him of earning a PGA Tour card for next season. The Top 25 money winners on the Nationwide Tour earn the honor of graduating to the top circuit.
"It's almost a surreal feeling," Willis told PGATour.com. "I was kind of expecting this grand explosion of emotion and I suppose that will come at some point. This is our job and what we set out to do each year."
Willis, an All-American first teamer at ETSU in 1996 while earning honorable mention picks in 1994 and 1995, is no stranger to the PGA Tour. He won his first ever PGA Tour event in 2001, capturing the Touchstone Energy Tucson Open, and he has since had multiple other victories on tour. To date, he has exceeded over $2 million in career earnings.
