NEW HAVEN, Conn. (May 19, 2010) - The ETSU men's golf team will begin its run at a school record 17th trip to the NCAA Championships Thursday morning, as the 31st-ranked Buccaneers tee off in first round play at the NCAA regionals hosted by The Course at Yale.
The Bucs, who have made 22 appearances in NCAA regional action, are particularly interested in making a return trip to the finals this season, considering The Honors Course in Chattanooga will be hosting the championships. The Honors Course was the same site where the Bucs finished third in the nation back in 1996.
A total of 14 teams will be competing in each of the six regional fields, with the top five teams advancing to the finals. The top individual player not to be a member of one of the top five teams will also earn a spot in the championships.
"Given my choice I would have liked going to Yale, because we've played there before and we are a familiar with it," ETSU head coach Fred Warren said earlier this month. "It's a difficult course, but at this point no matter where you are it's a matter of playing well. The top five go so that's our goal."
Live scoring from the NCAA regionals will be available on Golfstat.com, and ETSUBucs.com will provide complete coverage following each day's action. For more on ETSU men's golf, visit ETSUBucs.com and click on the men's golf link.
