JONESBOROUGH, Tenn. (Oct. 15, 2010) - ETSU junior Peter Wilson (Locust Valley, N.Y.) finished his opening round with a season-low 2-over 74 to lead the Bucs during the opening day of the Bank of Tennessee Intercollegiate at The Ridges, Friday afternoon.
Wilson was solid through most of the day as his round consisted of two birdies, two bogeys, and a double bogey. He is currently tied for 16th.
The Bucs are tied for 11th position after finishing with a 305 (+17) team score on the cool and blustery opening day. Kent State has the team lead after day one following a 291 (+3). North Carolina and Missouri are tied for second at +7, while UNC Wilmington sits in fourth at +8.
No. 25 Virginia (+9) is in fifth, while Chattanooga (+11) and Tennessee (+11) are tied for sixth. No. 24 Wake Forest (+12), Virginia Tech (+12), No. 29 Michigan (+15), ETSU (+17), Coastal Carolina (+17), Louisville (+21), and Denver (+26), round out the scoring.
John Hahn of Kent State has the individual lead as he fired a first-round 4-under 68. Hahn had seven birdies and three bogeys during his round. Marshall Bailey of Virginia Tech and Jace Long of Missouri are second after matching 2-under 70s. Bailey finished his round with five birdies and three bogeys on the 7,147-yard, par-72 The Ridges Golf and Country Club layout. Only six players in the 74-player field finished the day under par.
ETSU junior Devin Komline (Dorset, Vt.) and sophomore Patrick Spraggs (Rochford, England) both shot rounds of 76 (+4) on Monday and are tied for 32nd.
Freshman Spencer Lawson (Raleigh, N.C.) opened the tournament with a 79 (+7). Senior Paul O'Kane (Castledawson, Northern Ireland) also fired a first round 79. They are both tied for 53rd.
The Bucs tee off round number two tomorrow beginning at 9:20 a.m. They will be paired with players from Michigan and Coastal Carolina.
