NORMAN, Okla. (August 8, 2011) – For the third year in a row, the ETSU men’s golf team has been recognized for its academic achievements as the Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA) recently honored the Bucs as an All-Academic Team.
To be eligible for GCAA All-Academic Team honors a college of university must submit the grade points earned and hours attempted for each player on its official squad list for the academic year. The team must compile a 3.0 or higher cumulative GPA.
The Bucs have been honored by the GCAA for their academic achievements during each of the three seasons of existence. In 2009, the Bucs were named Academic National Champions after compiling the highest team GPA in the nation. Last season, the Bucs earned President’s Special Recognition for compiling a 3.5 or higher team GPA.
This season, the Bucs were just one of two Atlantic Sun Conference teams to be recognized for academic achievement as Belmont was also named to the All-Academic Team. In addition, only 103 teams recorded 3.0 GPAs or higher and just 59 total Division I teams achieved the honor.
DePaul (Division I), Lynn (Division II), Grinnell (Division III), SCAD-Savannah (NAIA), USC-Lancaster (NJCAA DI) and South Mountain CC (NJCAA DII) were named Academic National Champions for their respective divisions. DePaul posted the highest recorded team GPA with 3.66. Alabama, Brown, Butler, Missouri and Yale were also accorded President’s Special Recognition status for earning team GPAs of 3.50 or better.
