BRASELTON, Ga. (Apr. 17, 2012) – The ETSU men’s golf team fired a second round 295 (+7) to remain in second place in the team standings with one round to go at the Atlantic Sun Championship on the Legends Course at Chateau Elan.
No. 8-ranked North Florida remains atop the leaderboard after firing a second round 286 (-2), which was the lowest score recorded by a team this week. The Ospreys (287-286—573) sit at 3-under-par and own a 10-shot lead over the Bucs (288-295—583) and No. 41 Kennesaw State (291-292—583).
Florida Gulf Coast (+20) is in fourth, while Mercer rounds out the top-five at +24. USC Upstate (+25) is in sixth followed by Stetson (+26), Jacksonville (+31), Lipscomb (+38) and Belmont (+39).
Sean Dale (68-69—137) is now in the lead by himself on the individual leaderboard at 7-under overall after firing his second consecutive round in the 60s. His teammate Kevin Aylwin is in second at 5-under, while Sam Ryder of Stetson (-2) and ETSU freshman Scott Gibson (Dumfries, Scotland) (-1, 73-70—143) are the only other players in the field below par for the tournament. ETSU redshirt senior Rhys Enoch (Cornwall, England), who was tied for the lead after round one, remains in contention as he sits in fifth at even-par (68-76—144).
Meanwhile, sophomore Spencer Lawson (Raleigh, N.C.) is the third member of the Buccaneer squad in the top-six in the 50-player field at +1 (70-75—145). Freshman Rhys Pugh (Pontypridd, Wales) moved up six spots on the leaderboard to 20th after a 2-over 74 on Tuesday. Pugh is at +7 for the tournament after an opening round 77.
The third and final round of play will begin at 8 a.m. tomorrow morning. The Bucs will be paired with North Florida and Kennesaw State beginning at 8:45 a.m. Live stats will be available at Golfstat.com.
