BRASELTON, Ga. (June 8, 2012) – ETSU incoming freshman Christopher Hickman (Centreville, Md.) earned honorable mention honors for the USGA-AJGA Presidents’ Leadership Award, the USGA and AJGA recently announced.
Hickman was one of just 16 to earn the prestigious honor. The Presidents' Leadership Award was created to recognize one boy and one girl junior golfer who demonstrate leadership, character and community service through their involvement with the Leadership Links program – a joint initiative founded by the USGA and AJGA in 2005 to further develop junior golfers through volunteerism.
Hickman earned the honor after being a member of the National Honor Society and Student Council President. In addition, he hosted a Golf-a-Thon at Wild Quail Golf & Country Club. He played 101 holes during the event and raised over $3,500 for the Delaware State Golf Association and AJGA youth development programs.
Hickman, who played for head coach William Darrin at The Blue Ridge School, is currently ranked the top 2012 junior in both Maryland and Delaware. He qualified for the 2011 U.S. Junior Amateur, where he was 55th in stroke play before losing 1-down in the match play round of 64. Hickman won the Delaware Junior Amateur Championship the last three years, while being named the 2010 and 2011 Delaware Junior Player of the Year.
He was selected to the Delaware Golf Association Williamson Cup Team in 2009, 2010 and 2011, while placing third in 2010. Hickman finished top-10 at the 2010 and 2011 Delaware Amateur Championship, while also posting several top-10 finishes in AJGA events.
During his career at The Blue Ridge School, Hickman has been selected three times a VISAA Division I All-State performer, as well as being a three-time First Team All-VIC selection. Hickman finished third at the 2010 All Virginia Independent Conference Tournament.
