Chris Wisler and Roseline Addo Honored as Male and Female Athlete of the Year

Friday, June 15, 2001

Johnson City, Tenn. -- The East Tennessee State University athletic department announced today that senior Chris Wisler (golf) and junior Roseline Addo (track & field) have earned ETSU Male and Female Athlete-of-the-Year honors for the 2000-01 academic year, as selected by the program's coaches. "Everyone involved with ETSU Athletics are proud to honor Chris and Roseline as this year's Male and Female Athlete of the Year," athletic director Todd Stansbury said. "I congratulate both of them on their outstanding seasons. Chris and Roseline are perfect examples of what this award represents, quality student-athletes who excel in competition." A 2001 NCAA Division I First Team All-American, Wisler recorded the lowest scoring average in program history during his senior season. His 71.1 average was the second lowest in Southern Conference history, behind only Brad Faxon of Furman. The Dover, Del., native also set ETSU all-time records for lowest round (64) and lowest three-round (201) scores at the Rolex/Golf World Invitational from Nov. 3-5, 2000. He was ranked as high as #5 nationally, while finishing in the top-5 in seven tournaments. Wisler led the Bucs to a ninth-place finish at the 2001 NCAA Championships in Durham, N.C. He concluded his decorated career when he tied for 16th after firing a four-round 287 (71-69-74-73). Two weeks earlier, Wisler tied for third at the NCAA East Regional while leading the Bucs to an NCAA record for a regional -- 36-under par. During his accomplished career, Wisler earned All-America honors three times and was the Southern Conference Player of the Year in each of the last two seasons. He led the Bucs to four consecutive Southern Conference Championships, four NCAA Regionals and four NCAA Championship appearances. For the second consecutive year, Wisler was selected to play in the Palmer Cup, an event featuring the top eight U.S. collegiate players versus the top eight collegians from Great Britain and Ireland. Addo produced one of the most prolific track & field seasons in recent ETSU history during her junior year. As her season progressed, Addo continued to break program records. She shattered the 400 meter record by running a 55.08 at the Florida Relays in Gainesville, Fla. Addo was also a member of ETSU's 4x400-meter relay team that broke the Southern Conference record. She earned All-Southern Conference honors at both the 2001 Indoor and Outdoor Championships. Addo won the 400 meter race in both meets. Competing in the Memorial Center, Addo won her second consecutive indoor crown with a time of 56.92 on February 24. She won the outdoor title with a time of 55.15 in Lexington, Va. on April 21. The Newbury, England, native began the year by winning the 800 meter race at the Clemson Opener in Clemson, S.C. She later captured the 400 meter title at the Rod McCravy Memorial Track Meet in Lexington, Ky. on Jan. 13. After finishing second among all collegiate runners in the 400 meters at the Pepsi/Walker Track & Field Invitational, Addo earned Southern Conference Runner-of-the-Week honors.
