JOHNSON CITY, Tenn.-- Senior Chris Wisler shot a career-low 8-under par 64 to finish in a tie for third and propel the 19th ranked East Tennessee State men's golfers to a tie for fifth in the Rolex/Golf World/Palmetto Dunes Collegiate Invitational from Arthur Hills at Palmetto Dunes Resort in Hilton Head, S.C.
Wisler's previous low round was a 67 in the first round of The Ridges Intercollegiate on Sept. 9, 2000.
As a team, the Buccaneers shot a combined 280 (-8) on the day to mark the third consecutive round that they improved their team score. Their three-day total was 848 (287-281-280), tied with second ranked Clemson and 14th ranked New Mexico. The first ranked Georgia Bulldogs won the tournament after firing a three-round 822, 26 shots ahead of the Buccaneers.
Wisler finished in a tie at 15-under par with eighth ranked Ryan Hybl of Georgia. Senior Pat Beste shot his second straight 71 to finish in a six-way tie for 18th at 5-under par. Sophomore Adam Riddering shot his second consecutive 70 to finish in a five-way tie for 42nd at even-par. Sophomores Thomas Lee and James Johnson were two of three golfers that finished in a three-way tie for 72nd at 7-over par after Lee shot a 76 and Johnson shot a 75 on the final day.
The Rolex/Golf World/Palmetto Dunes Collegiate Invitational concludes the Buccaneers Fall golf season. ETSU will return to action on Feb. 25, 2001 from the Puerto Rico Classic from San Juan, Puerto Rico.
