Knoxville, Tenn. (Oct. 21, 2002) - The East Tennessee State's men's golf team is in fifth place after two rounds of the Coca-Cola Tournament of Champions from Holston Hills Country Club in Knoxville, Tenn.
The Buccaneers shot a 291 in Monday's morning round, then came back strong to shoot a 283 in today's afternoon round. With a combined 574, the Bucs are 14 shots behind the team leaders, Georgia and host school Tennessee.
Sophomores Jeremy Hobson (Thonotosassa, Fla.) and Chase Baldwin (Brandon, Fla.) led ETSU on day one, tying for 14th at 2-under-par. Both golfers shot a first-round 72 followed by a second-round 72. The duo is 13 shots behind the individual leaders, David Skinns of Tennessee, Brandt Snedeker of Vanderbilt and Bruce McDonald of College of Chaleston.
Senior James Johnson (Barbados) also had a strong day, shooting a first-round 76, but coming back with a second-round 71 to finish in a tie for 38th at 3-over-par. Fellow senior Adam Riddering (Maple Grove, Minn.) also finished the day tied for 38th, after shooting a first round 75, then coming back with a second-round 72.
Sophomore Marcos Trejos (San Jose, Costa Rica) rounded out ETSU's day on the links by finishing in a tie for 45th after two rounds of play. He shot a first-round 72 followed by a second-round 76.
Sophomore Hamilton Wheeler (Bowling Green, Ky.) is playing in the tournament as an individual and finds himself in a tie for 50th (74-75=149) after the first day.
The Buccaneers return to action in the Coca-Cola Tournament of Champions tomorrow morning from Holston Hills Country Club in Knoxville, Tenn.
