            KINGSTON SPRINGS, Tenn. (May 19, 2005) - Even though thunderstorms caused a delay and kept some of the East Tennessee State University men's golf team from completing their first round of play, the Bucs are currently eighth on the team leaderboard following Thursday's play in the first round of the NCAA East Regional at the Golf Club of Tennessee.

            A two-hour weather delayed kept several teams from completing their rounds, and the Bucs are one of those teams, as they will be back on the course at 7 a.m. Friday morning to finish the first round. Head coach Fred Warren said the Bucs were pleased with the solid start to the tournament.

            "It's been a long day and tomorrow will be even longer now that we have to start at 7 a.m.," said Warren, whose team must finish in the top 10 to qualify for the NCAA Championships. "We're off to a fair start and things are looking OK at this point."

            Led by a 4-under-par score from sophomore Rhys Davies (Bridgend, Wales) - who is one of the Bucs yet to finish his round - ETSU is currently at 1-under for the event. The Bucs trail front-running Wake Forest, who posted a score of 13-under on the day, while Davies is just two strokes back of Wake's Kyle Reifers at the top of the individual leaderboard.

            Other notable ETSU results at present include an even-par score from freshman Gareth Shaw (Lisburn, Northern Ireland), a 1-over-par score from freshman Cian McNamara (Limerick, Ireland) and a two-over-par 73 from senior Cennydd Mills (Cardiff, Wales).
